Main Materials

• PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) – Sturdy and nice for printing. Usually used as the outside layer because it looks premium and gives some barrier against oxygen and moisture.
• PE (Polyethylene) – Flexible and food-safe. It seals well, which is why it is the standard inner layer in many pouches. Usually works together with PET or metallized PET.
• Metallized PET (Aluminum Foil) – Still the best barrier against oxygen, light and aroma loss. That’s why most coffee pouches have it when long shelf life is needed.
• Kraft Paper – Natural look that health and organic brands like. By itself it doesn’t block much oxygen, so usually laminated with plastic or foil.
• BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) – A clear and  printable film with good moisture resistance. Often part of multilayer pouches.
• Monomaterials (PE or PP) – Made for recycling. Barrier levels are getting better fast so more companies are switching when they want to highlight sustainability.

Special Feature for Coffee: Valves

Freshly roasted coffee keeps releasing gasses  for days after roasting. Without a degassing valve pressure builds up and can burst the pouch. A one-way valve solves this by letting gas out while keeping oxygen out.  For serious coffee brands its not optional but it’s the difference between beans that stay fresh or go stale.

Which material works best?

• Coffee ? PET/foil laminates + degassing valve. Best barrier and freshness.
• Food Supplements ? PET or PE laminates, sometimes kraft outside for a more natural look. Moisture control is key.
• Eco-focused brands ? Recyclable mono materials work well, especially for short or medium shelf life.
